I had extreme problems getting a couple of versions of 1.50 to install; and
even after I did manage to install it on one unit, I was never actually able
to get to a web page....

By contrast, 1.67 installed fine for me. But I still had no luck getting to
a web page until I reread the docs and saw the trick about using DR-DOS 7.01
(and 7.02, as it turned out) with Arachne. After that, everything
functioned.

Sunspots is a definite possibility. I'm wondering about his modem init
string too. If he's connecting but then not getting a page, that can't be
improper modem initialization, right? I mean, if the unit is getting ATZ
when it needs AT&F0 or something, then he couldn't even connect in the first
place, right? And the same if he's got the indicated modem speed turned up
too high?

Currently, I'm doing all those "speedup" tweaks, like eliminating the
unnecessary backgrounds and getting what I need on Ramdisk. Arachne is
never going to be "fast" on my Compaq, given the slow modem, low-end 386
processor and the like. But there is a difference between putting up with
slowness and putting up with the Spanish Inquisition, and I seem to have at
least left the latter behind.
