Michael,

I just unzipped Arachne 1.68. Even before running it, I am already
able to explain why I am going to stay with 1.66: yes, it is because
of the extra-line feature (or shall I call it...). It was the
excellent Arachne interface between 1.48 and 1.67 that made me
almost forget that there is a mouse somewhere on my desk. And I did
not care about the tiny coloured ikons. No idea what their meaning
was. But what I have really got used to is:

1. a status line that tells me what is going on right now

2. a looong line for the URL of http, ftp and: the long paths of
the growing collection of HTM files on my hard disk

3. a looong line for the title tag. For in the meantime I learnt to
edit the title tags in HTML documents and discovered that these
titles can be used as a kind of long file name system. With my hand-
made dir2htm utility I can sort the contents of my archive
directories by headlines, authors, or whatever I like to write
into the title tags.

This interface made Arachne far superior to all those explorer
communicator etc. What happened now: Two lines have been reduced to
one, I can read only half of the title and only half of the URL
address. Some of the coloured spots have moved from one side to the
other one.

I know, I am too conservative. And I promise you to still run the new
version and not stop until I found and reportet at least 10 real
bugs to you! After all I acknowledge that progress is necessary,
as more and more Czech websites go technologically mad. I really
appreciate your efforts! But couldn't you give us the old interface
back? Please unfix this feature in the next release!

Christof Lange
