With certain word sets there are two accepted spelling standards:
British spelling and American spelling. Whichever variant Michael
chooses to use, he should take care to be consistent so as to ensure
compliance with the same spelling standard. Consistent adherence to
one standard or the other is perfectly acceptable. Mix-and-match is
wrong. Many words seen in American English containing the two letter
combination "or" should be written with the three letter combination
"our" in British English. Also some words containing "ize" in American
English should be written with "ise" in British English. Sometimes it
is very important to be aware of these subtle differences in spelling.
If you were to perform a computer search on the text of the King James
Bible to look for any occurrences of the phrase "love thy neighbor", you
would not find it anywhere. Try searching for "love thy neighbour", and
you will find that it occurs several times, and once in Leviticus.
All the best,
Sam Heywood
