Eric Yeager, asked about using a 56K Modem on his Toshiba T4800CT Eric, It really does NOT depend upon the speed of your CPU/Bus...it DOES depend upon the type of Serial Port Chips you have in your laptop. 16650 chips are capable of 56K and I think 16550 are also...this is because they have built-in buffers, so they don't drop characters at the higher speeds. Some 16450 chips can handle 56K using software buffers, and I think Arachne package comes with this ability... You can get all the information available for your laptop by going to: http://www.toshiba.com/ Leave "All Products" in the selection box, enter T4800CT in the Search Box, and click "Search" ...you will get 67 document hits. They contain a bunch of info you may find useful. I am sending you by separate, off list, emails: TSB0321.htm - 5K and 4800CT.TXT - 9K QUICKREF.HTM - 39K T4800CT.GIF - 62K I happen to know my way around their site since I had to go there to get the info for my Satellite 110CS I just bought on eBay...so you got a freebie...<g> You need to go on the Toshiba site with at least the Win3.1/NN 4.08 or you can't properly navigate thru their CSS and Frames garbage.. .......gregy
