  I can't help out with what the APM does, but .shtml is
the extension used to tell the server to parse the file.
It's used with server-side includes (SSI).  There are issues
of cachebility associated with SSI, so maybe I could hazard
a (total) guess that SHTML.APM would have something to do
not caching .shtml pages... ?
