No, I don't feel that I had spun out with a bad attitude. Some of the folks
replying to my question somehow failed to grasp what I was talking about.
I was talking about transferring operating system files by using the SYS
command and they were telling me stuff about copying DOS utilities and
"wrong version" errors, which of course do not apply within the context of
what I am attempting to discuss. You can't get a wrong version error when
you are running a DOS utility supplied with the version that is loaded.
Of course I would not have my path variable set to include C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
when the system is booted under an alternate DOS version. It is a fact that
I was talking about one thing, and they another.

OK, Bob, sorry. Your earlier reply did in fact address my question, but
your suggestion involved using a version of DOS that I am not familiar with.
(PTS DOS) I just want to use a DOS version that I'm already accustomed to,
especially when I'm contemplating transferring the system files over to a
machine that already has Windows 95 installed, and I don't want to
permanently break my Windows. Other than a utility to save the boot sector,
do you think I would need any tools other than bootable floppies having the
approriate SYS command, one floppy having the operating system files for
WIN95 and the other for some version of DR-DOS or MS-DOS?

A problem that one sometimes encounters with the SYS command is an error
saying something to the effect that there is not enough room in the
appropriate sector for the system files. I just need to know what works
when switching operating systems back and forth between WIN95 and some
other DOS versions. I have no idea where I might find this information.
I think I will just have to rely on the reports of someone else's
experience. Maybe if I just save the original boot sector to a floppy I
won't have to worry about the error described. I do have a utility for
saving the boot sector, but it is part of a huge anti-virus program. Can
you recommend some very simple utility for saving the boot sector and for
copying it back onto the appropriate sector of the disk?

All the best, and seasons greetings,

Sam
