Roger,
I used DOSCIM to access Compuserve, also tried OS/2 CIM when that came out, but
that didn't work well. Compuserve started switching fora to HMI-only, and I was
never able to post a message to an HMI-only forum, either with DOSCIM or
OS/2 CIM. I was "Timed out waiting for a response" followed by disconnect.
This continued for the better part of a year until I dropped Compuserve at the
end of August 1997, after they developed a bug in their mail system whereby I
couldn't send a message to an outside Internet address, but could send the
message if it was a reply. That bug was about two weeks old, and I dropped
Compuserve just in time to avoid being charged for another month.
I guess you can use Arachne for WWW browsing even when you connect with
Compuserve. Can you get Compuserve mail using Arachne? Do they support POP3
and SMTP?
I occasionally receive CDs in the mail, unsolicited, for Compuserve 2000 and
AOL, but can't recall receiving any for Prodigy.
Now I have some DOS BBS-style communications programs but no place to try them
out.
If Compuserve mailbox holds 100 messages maximum, could you join a free e-mail
service such as GMX, Telebot or Yahoo? Sometimes I get over 100 messages in one
day on my bluegrass.net account.
