The subject pretty much says it. Doing from an xterm, 'arachne http://www.microscopyu.com' opens up a GGI Arachne and downloads the html file and starts on the graphics. I get a lot of command-line "info," to wit, 56 x this line: Unsupported BMP marker 1677747200 or header size 41!=41... On the 7th line of that output there's a single line that's different: Unsupported BMP marker 1207977984 or header size 41!=41... After that I get "Executing command:" and then 22 lines similar to this one djpeg -bmp -outfile /home/stackman/.arachne/cache/978046328.BMP /home/stackman/.arachne/cache/978046328.JPG (each with different file names of course), and then Arachne just goes :: poof :: (which is usually a sign that the DOS version would lock up). This all took something over a minute. I tried Netscape and Amaya, and they loaded and rendered the page quite a bit faster (like 30 seconds or so), so next time I ran 'time arachne http://www.microscopyu.com' with the same results (arachne downloaded all graphics again... didn't get them from cache). The output from 'time' may or not be helpful: Command exited with non-zero status 139 14.79user 4.39system 1:08.77elapsed 27%CPU (0avgtext+0avgdata 0maxresident)k 0inputs+0outputs (4310major+1993minor)pagefaults 0swaps When do we see a newer version of Arachne for Linux? I'm almost feeling that bug reports for old versions might not be particularly helpful if the code has already changed considerably. - Steve
