Hi I just wanted to inform you, that the email forwarder http://www.bigfoot.com now uses the ORBS list to cut down SPAM received. And they did a really good job even before that, because nearly no SPAM reached me. ORBS ( http://www.orbs.org ) is a service, where known open SMTP relays are kept track of. EG computers which relay mail for everybody, and therefor are often and easily abused by SPAMers. When you receive mail, your SMTP server, can check whether it came from such an open relay. If yes, most bounce the mail, and say that it was rejected due to the fact that the sending SMTP was listed in ORBS. Backside, open SMTP relays have not only SPAM users, but some legitimate users as well. Their email will also be rejected. But this is seldom, because SMTP servers shouldn't relay for anybody ! Sorry for my long OT mail, but maybe someone is interested. For a less restrictive variant of ORBS look at http://www.mail-abuse.org CU, Ricsi -- |~)o _ _o Richard Menedetter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> {ICQ: 7659421} |~\|(__\| -=> Anything that is too stupid to be spoken can be sung <=-
