Hi Folks

I downloaded and have been installing and setting up Arach169 and have
reached a problem.
I am using an external US Robotics 56K modem and can get it to dial out,
but it stops with the line:

PPP line is down. Driver not installed.

In the Arachne folder I have the configuration files:

LANTCP     12-24-98
MIME       12-11-00
PPPTCP      1-29-99
SECURITY    7-21-00
WATTCP     12-11-00
WWWMAN      1-15-00
ARACHNE     1-09-01
PPPDRC      1-09-01

Is this problem covered in RTFM, and if so, which one.

I am sure of the username and password.
The IP Address is dynamically assigned.
Nameservers 1 and 2 are entered and correct.
I used Modem Doctor to get the serial port information.
Phone number is valid
Terminal Window was used with similar problems.
Autodial is not used.
Login Script wasn't changed from what the program selected.
Modem init string is AT&F.
Dialing is by tone.

On External dial-up driver setup:

Terminal window tried both ways
Autodial off
Login script Try following dialogue off,
  Wait for  name:

  Response  ppp

I am running this on a non windows 486DX, 33, 16 Meg of Ram, DRDOS Ver. 7.03
I don't see anything in the Autoexec.bat or Config.sys that relates to
Arachne, but I have included them here just in case I missed something that
is causing a problem.

Autoexec.bat reads:
  @ECHO OFF
  PATH C:\DRDOS;C:\MOUSE;C:\ARACHNE;C:\
  VERIFY OFF
  PROMPT [DR-DOS] $P$G
  SET DRDOSCFG=C:\DRDOS
  NWCACHE 7670 1024 /LEND=ON /DELAY=OFF
  C:\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD002 /M:10

Config.sys reads:
  DEVICE-C:\DRDOS\EMM386.EXE DPMI=OFF FRAME=NONE
  DEVICE=C:\DRDOS\DPMS.EXE
  DEVICE=C:\DRDOS\SETVER.EXE
  SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM C:\ /E:51 /P
  BREAK=OFF
  HIBUFFERS=120
  FILES=120
  FCBS=4,4
  HISTORY=ON,512,ON
  COUNTRY=1,,C:\DRDOS\COUNTRY.SYS
  DOS=HIGH,UMB
  DEVICE=\DEV\NEC_IDE.SYS /D:MSCD002 /N:1
  [common]
  LASTDRIVE=M

After I get this worked out, I need to write up the details so I can have
200 middle school students hook up there modems after a bit of training. I
have the new modems, internet connections and computers ready.

Thanks for any help you can give.
