Hi Glenn and all,
>> Upgrade.... upgrade.... upgrade. <vbg>
Actually I had already been bribed by A169's speed advantages.
So I kept A166 still prepared in one zip file, but switched my
arainstall.bat to A169.
[Although I shall never like the reduced interface in A167ss. Every
tim I want to edit the URL or the Title of the file on screen, I
face the problem that I can read only the first few letters. Sorry,
this needed to be said.]
So I did not have to upgrade yesterday when I made another attempt
with LSPPP. I succeeded in loading it with Arachne and without. It
works. But on the way I found a few questions - concerning LSPPP or
Arachne or both of them.
>>>> 1) rename lsppp.exe to lspppd.exe
Yes following Glenn's instructions, I changed the file name
for Arachne. When I used the LSPPP independently from Arachne this
was not necessary. I could use mail transport, ftp etc. without
problems. Why does Arachne want to cheat her?
>No setting of environment variables and no renaming was necessary.
According to the lsppp documentation, the environment variable lsppp
has the same function and the same syntax as the command line
parameters. So I decided to store the hardware configuration
(port, speed etc.) to the environment variable and to put
those parameters that I want to edit more often into the command
line in arachne.cfg (phonenumber, server, user id, and password).
This modification caused some trouble. I did not really find out why,
but it seems to me as if lsppp(d) does not like too many options on
the command line. The same parameters in a different orders evoked
different errors. Something similar happened when I set up lsppp
independently: Neither could I put everything into the lsppp
variable neither everything into the command line.
