I thought they originated from OS/2 (but there's some diffrence between
an OS/2 and a Windows bitmap). But since Windows is a "clone" of OS/2 it
would seem natural that OS/2 had BMPs first.

You sound just like my teacher the other day. But he remembered the
drawback - no animation (you'll need MNG for that).
PNG, "PNG Not Gif" - but that isn't the official name ;-)

I didn't know that. How interesting, I'll need to make some tests.

BTW: I never checked, is it the latest version of png2bmp that's shipped
with 1.70r3? (You'll notice my name in the plugin list if it is).
