Hi Gangue,

Snowing here in Edinburgh, temperature in the minus figures and pretty
damn cold with a high wind chill factor!. Still, the days are getting a
bit longer, so we've turned the corner towards the spring and summer in
the northern bit of the world.

News here has been of Lockerbie and the decision on the "Dutch/Scottish"
court that a Libyan was responsible for the 270 deaths of various
nationalities. The problem I have with that decision is the
recommendation that he serve 20 years in prison. Now I may be simple,
but 20 x 12 = 240, so that equates to less than one month in jail for
each death? Seems to value the lives of those passengers a bit cheaply
to me, but then I can't think of a suitable solution to the problem of
the sentence anyway, unless it should be decided by the relatives of
those killed?

Arachne 1.70r3 continues to annoy me. See my note to the list yesterday,
cc to Bernie. It continues to be a source of concern to me that whilst
we are helping to develop a worth while alternative to the big 2
bloatbrowsers, the simple things get pushed back because we all "know
how to fix them". My point is and always has been that newbies don't
know how to fix them! If Arachne is ever to make a real impact on the
browser scene, we have to "woo" or "wow" the new users with a simple to
use and set up program.

The setup routine now works much better and more reliably than it ever
has since I joined this club, back at 1.2 something ISTR, but we still
have problems with fairly simple (well I think it's simple, I don't
really know!) stuff. If Bernie, Michael or Clarence tell me it's not
simple to fix, then I will stay told. The thing is, it did work ok back
at 1.44. I remember writing a sub-routine and doing some HTML that put a
box up on the dialler page for me to click that went off to my ISP and
collected all the mail for each account, stacked it into each mailbox
and then sent all the mail to the various accounts and finished up at
the Inbox assistant page on the first account ready for me to read the
mail. Now it gives me grief and xswap errors every time I try it!

On the vehicle buying front, the Pajero still looks like a good buy here
for a 4x4 for my caravanning. I'll let you know, but hoping to finalise
things this (next) week, and then get the caravan into action again as
soon as the weather brightens up a bit more. Caravan pages (some
javscript sorry!) at

http://www.bccscotland.freeserve.co.uk
http://www.coachmanclub.freeserve.co.uk
http://www.lunar-owners-club.co.uk

and a commercial website with quite a bit js at

http://www.scottscaravans.fsnet.co.uk

There's also my ham radio pages at euramcom, listing US and Euro ham
radio parts and equivalents at

Take care guys and gals, remember you only have one life, so live it to
the best of your ability.

Regards

Mel
