1.70R3: Endless loop of "verifying images"

Start Arachne 1.70R3 with "http://www.lpga.com" on the command line.

Arachne will display some of the page.  Then the words "Verifying images" 
will flash endlessly on the status bar.  The only thing that works at that 
point is Ctl-Alt-Del.
