I have a program I downloaded from somewhere by Ontrack, called Drive
Rocket. This is not a cacheing program, but a special driver that
loads from config.sys and it CAN speed up drive access by messing
with the drives block read size (I think that is what it is called).
I got a very good improvement on a Quantum drive I have with it,
though there are some drives it does not seem to boost at all. It has
an elaborate built in testing program that you can play with to
demonstrate the improvement with various parameters before you
install it so you can decide if it will be worth the trouble. I will
send it to you and maybe it will give this recalcitrant HD a kick in
the pants. ;) The archive is less than 200k so let me know if you'd
like to give it a spin. Others on the list reading this may also
request it by contacting me off list. If I get several requests I
will wait a day or so for the requests to trickle in so I only have
to upload it once.
