Did I mention, a couple of days ago, that I got yet another "goodie" in
the mail bragging about a great new piece of webware site design
software? If so, this is a follow up; if not, you can read my original
message.

I have "neutralized" the e-dress, because there's no need for anyone to
contact the lady. But the tenor & content of the reply I got is worth
seeing. Some sites *do* listen!!

Hi L.D.

Thanks for your comments on the Rational site. It's great to know you take
such an active interest in the code!

To answer your question about the use of Rational Suite ContentStudio, we
have not yet implemented it on our external site. We are starting to use it
on the Rational intranet this quarter, and then will incorporate it into the
publishing process on rational.com later in the year. I like your suggestion
of including the generator tag. For those like you who like to look under
the covers of the site, it's a great way to show what the product can do.

I'll pass the other comments on to our design team. We're always trying to
improve the performance and appearance of the site.

Cheers,

Denise Tarbox

Comments: I cannot tell a lie: When I receive advertising about new
webware, the first thing I want to do is check out the home page of the
advertiser.

When I dropped in and took a look at the code, I was pleasantly surprised to
find in-code comments/documentation [although some of it was flawed ... some
saying "start" when it should say "end"] that was actually useful, far nicer
than so much of the boiler plate found on many sites that want to play with
js these days.

However, that could all be done by hand -- and I see no META tag for
"Generator" ... were the pages written with your Rational web site software
or not?? If not, then wouldn't it be more fair to the consumer/potential
customer to use the software that is being sold to design & maintain the
website?

If the site was designed, and is being maintained, using the company
software -- it should be indicated in the META tags.

Another thing I noticed, which makes the site less friendly to some browsers
such as mine, is that you allow for only two CSS ... NS & IE. If someone is
using another browser, no CSS is available. My browser handles CSS fairly
well, but since no "generic for other browsers" option is provided for,
onmouseover doesn't so much as change the color of the link.

BTW, the top nav bar, and body of the page, works fine in hires & 800x600,
but the top nav bar fails in resolution lower than 800x600.

Finally, it would be so much simpler to make this textarea a reasonable
width and put wordwrap in place. Even people who don't know that DOS, and
some other OSes can cut off a line at a certain number of characters
regardless of where in the line it is, don't like what they are saying
scrolling off the screen.

All in all the site is higher calibre than many, but still could use some
refining.
