Actually, Clarence and Ricsi and Glenn posted comments in response to
my question.
Myself, I have but a dim grasp of these technical details--being
just an ordainary DOS user.
I was having environment problems and got out of space errors. The fix
was to add this line to my config.sys:
SHELL=C:\command.com /P/e:512
That solved my problem.
