Hi again LD;
I finally got my Arachne 1.62 installed again.
Strange problem: Before I re-installed (empty directory), chkdsk had
no complaints. Reloaded A1.62 and tried to run it. Crosslinked files all
over the place. Swithched to PC-Cache, re-booted, deleted the new install
and ran CHKDSK - no problems.
Re-installed again and chkdsk said NO problems. Hmmm.
Well, I have this particular re-install down to a science now so I tried
to re-create the crash of a few nights ago. I downloaded some mail and
hit ESC after Arachne arrived at the inbox. I quickly learned that I can
set the looping off if I hit ESC during the .WAV file that precedes the
display of my inbox. The loop WAS about 1 per second and I viciously
loaded the keyboard buffer with ESCs and altXs and altEs without avail
while Arachne went around the loop 16 times.
Big Red Button.
Back to Arachne. Needs the lock file and history list cleaned but no
problems AND no lost clusters.
I repeated the experiment once more without generating any lost clusters.
Then I switched to Ncache and did the experiment twice with that.
No problems. No lost clusters. Hmmmm.
I wasn't quite up to lighting the fuse by starting with A1.67, but that
may be what it takes. I'll see tomorrow.
