Hi Gangue,

Started off here in Edinburgh as a lovely sort of "spring" morning,
bright sunshine and crocuses (crocii? or crocae?) pushing through in
yellow, white and violet colours. Just enough to make you think winter
might be coming to an end.

We went off to collect the caravan from the dealer after it's winter
servicing, and came back ok. So now we've got the caravan ready to go,
we've got the Pajero ready for towing, but thanks to the foot and mouth
disease thing we don't have anywhere to go just yet. Our two big clubs
here, the Caravan Club, and the Camping and Caravanning Club have both
declared there is to be no rallies till end March at the earliest, and
that their sites will be closed till then also. Who knows when it's all
going to end? We set off to the dealer for the caravan at twelve o'clock
noon and heard on the radio news there were 139 cases of F & M
confirmed. As we came back, we heard the one o'clock news saying there
were now 151 cases confirmed! Over 80,000 animals destroyed already, and
up to 230,000 awaiting testing results to decide if they live or die!

What about New South Wales in Australia? Floods galore. Hope Ron is not
too near there on Oz land. Again, scenes of devastation on tv here,
people homless, at the least on a temporary basis, and lives lost.

Sad, sad news also locally in Scotland. A four year old apparently taken
from his bedroom yesterday morning around six in the morning, later
found dead at midnight last night, a 35 year old man "helping with
police enquiries". If the scenario is that of abduction and murder or
worse, then I'm afraid to admit I cannot see why this person should be
allowed to continue living, even under a life sentence. I have often
thought that child murderers and child abusers should be left in a locked
room with around twenty or thirty mothers for an hour or so. If there's
anything working and complete left after that, good luck to them.

Nothing to report on the Arachne front at all this week. I've been kept
busy sending out info and changing web pages with F & M info all week.

Can you all take a few seconds to think of a friend or relative who
needs the lift a kind thought might give? A close friend told me
yesterday he has just been diagnosed as having Prostate Cancer. He is a
good ten years younger than me, and a fit man. This stuff is no
respecter of youth, energy, efficiency or anything. When I got home and
told Ella (the flower arranger with a fist of steel VBG) she immediately
phoned his wife and they had a good natter session for over 30 minutes.
Sometimes I have to admit you women (LD!) have the best of ideas, in
this case, a problem shared is a problem lessened, however slightly.

Take Care Gangue, and think of a friend!

Regards

Mel
