Hi there guys and gals,
Another week of life goes by! Arachne continues to "bug" me! Will I ever
remember how to get the .asf script to work on just getting and
receiving all mail thing? I thought I had a new ISP in
"blueyonder.co.uk" from my Cable phone company. This promised unlimited
access to the net for a flat rate fee of 9.00 per month UKP) However it
turned out to need you to load Winbloat Exoploder v5.5 in AND make it
your "preferred" connection for everything. Well, I thought I would give
it a try at least. So I loaded it in over the Exploder v4 on the machine
already. So of course, everyrthing else promptly stopped working. I
should KNOW better by now. Only took me the last three hours to clean
the d@*n thing out and another hour to get the machine back to anywhere
near where it was before.
And of course, the 24 hour help line was on a twenty minute hold queue.
When I finally got through, I asked for the DNS numbers (I was going to
try an Arachen connect to see if it would work using Arachne) only to be
told that was not avaialable except to service engineers!
On the Foot and Mouth disease thing, Ella and I have had to cancel out
on some caravan rallies already, in April. so we booked a cheap special
to Spain for 21st April. Now we've been told this has special conditions
attached, we cannot take meat or dairy products into France with us.
The UK Government is now talking of mass slaughter of unaffected animals
within a ten mile radius of any infected areas, again a very Draconian
method of control, almost an ethnic cleansing of beasts. Farmers who are
to be affected by this are now beginning to revolt and say "NO" to the
Government, on the basis that their stock is healthy. Part of the
existing problem is that there are not sufficient workers to deal with
killing all these animals and then collecting and burning the bodies, so
animals are being left to lie in field for anything up to three or four
days before they are brought in for incineration. That in itself cannot
be healthy?
Here in Edinburgh, the capital city of a so-called civilised country, we
have this week found the body of a new-born baby, only hours old, burned
and abandoned, apparently by an under age (13 years old) mother unable
to care for it and terrified of her parents reaction to the birth and
the fact that the father is a married man of 22 years of age. Where is
the society that allows this sort of thing to happen going to end up?
I remember my childhood in a fairly poor area of Glasgow, we lived in a
tenement (block of apartments) where there were 11 families using a
common hallway and entrance. Although each door had it's own key and
lock, we all knew and trusted, helped and in a way loved each other as
families. If the mailman came with a parcel, we would open the door for
him and the parcel could be left in the hallway all day safely, till the
family concerned returned home - - or they might leave their door open
for the mailman to deliver it even! How things have changed since then?
I've had a couple of mails about the "Salsa", thankyou for those, nobody
seems to mind too much my off topic ramblings. If you do mind, then you
have my permission to filter them straight to the "TRASH" folder, I
won't be offended. VBG **8>)
Anybody want to buy a Mazda 626? Now we've got the Pajero I decided to
sell the Mazda. Of course it promptly decided it needed a NEW HANDBRAKE,
and then the CLUTCH started to slip! So my Mazda worth about 1400 UKP
needs about 300 UKP worth of work done before it can be sold! Not much
profit there then.
Ella (she who drives the Pajero like the Queen now) wants tea and
biscuits and it's my turn, so that's it for this week - - and I only got
one Lottery number out of 12 so I'm not coming to Prague this week
anyway!
Look after yourself and your loved ones gangue
Regards
Mel
