I regularly use a 40 Mhz 386 with a yellow hercules display.
At home we also have two 450 and 700 pentiums, that my five daughters
and son use for their college work.
I use them when I need a windows program, not very often.
Some months ago, my computer was a 286 with 2 Mby. I did all my internet
with it.
I then "upgraded" to a 486 DX2 66Mhz 12Mby.
This was to much. Really unnecessary for running DOS.
But the most important thing was that "the thrill was gone" as B.B. King
once sung.
So I "downgraded" to this 386. Some DOS programs run a little slower, but
I think this is an excellent processor for Lynx, PMail, UKA_PPP.
For those who are radio amateurs: here in Argentina there is a small group
of old radio hams that work the 7.150 Mhz / 40 meter band.
They still build their transmitters using only valves and use amplitude
modulation (AM). In the last 30 years, the rest of the world use ready-to-
run single side band (SSB) transistor transmitters.
But guess which group gets more joy of their hobby ?
It's the same with sailing only with the primitive energy of the wind or
gasoline motorboating.
It' the same with rail fans: old steam power or new diesel engines.
Or people who still use a FORD T or FORD A.
I think that in working the net without windows/linux/Mac, with only DOS,
building our own batch files, knowing the secrets of the net,
in an "very" old computer, one gets that type of joy.
