Hi Joerg & Joerg,

I understand that there are gateways that support sending SMS from
WWW. But is there even a way to send SMS directly to an email
address in Germany?

In Czech Republic the main mobile phone operators offer the
possibility to send email (up to 160 characters) directly to an email
address that can be generated from the phone number.

Let us say your Czech mobile phone number is (00420) 0602 123456

from the number 0602 it is clear that the operator of your mobile
phone is companyxxx.

This company supports sending email as SMS to the phone if you enter
the email address: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Of course you need to know how each phone company generates
their email addresses. But there are only three companies in
Czech Republic. And as the mobile phone hystery is quite advanced
here, this is an important tool for my office. Though I
personally do not have a mobile phone I can send urgent messages
to others who have one. And most people will more often switch on
their phones than get their mail from the internet. Actually you can
even force those people to receive your messages who are disciplined
enough to switch their phones off from time to time.

The latter thing, however, may be the reason why this exists only in
Czech Republic: Spammers need not find out the email addresses any
more, they can just generate it with random numbers. And people
receiving unwanted SMS will even have to pay for it. (So from what I
have just written it may seem that I am a spammer, too? I will have
to think about this.)

What about other countries and continents?

Regards
Christof
