I've got the same lousy thing on my motherboard. One would assume that they
would sometime get it right and stop adding sound on the motherboard when
it's all junk anyway, right?
One problem that I'm sure you'll notice is that if you play a MP3 in
Windows (or whatever multitasking OS you want for that matter) you will
have problems doing something else at the same time. People seem to think
that this is because of a slow CPU but why does a 100MHz do the job better
than a 700MHz? It isn't CPU related, it's related to the DMA buffer the
"card" can handle.
Anyway, if you ever understand how you are going to get the volume up in
DOS please let me know. If so I could use a "real" (not really since it
isn't SB16 compatible) soundcard in Windows and this built-in junk one in DOS.
And it was good that you sent this mail, it reminded me that I need to pull
the SB128PCI out and return it to the store after work tomorrow asking for
a PCI card that works in DOS.
