Did you look at your TASKMGR.INI file?
What is the memory limit per task (Limit=...) in [Memory] section?
You can set it, e.g., to 20480. But then some poorly written
programs will be able to allocate whole memory and nothing will be
left for other tasks.

I just did, for the first time. But I haven't used task manager since running
out of memory with DOS Lynx386. Currently I have practically no room for a swap
file on a Zip 250 disk.

Hard disks are still inaccessible. What remains to be tried is to remove,
rejumper both for master, and reinstall one at a time. One mounting screw is
missing, but the hole is filled, as if the screw broke off, but how would that
happen? Would this little bit of looseness render a hard disk unreadable? Or
is it really farkled? Then the other hard disk, now slave, might possibly be
usable as the one and only fixed disk.
