Andy,
To send BitMaP files as attachments, the FIRST thing you do is ZIP
them!! Use ZBM as the extension. i.e. pkzip -ex andi.zbm andi.bmp
There could be other reasons for SMTP errors uploading attachments, but
did you ever stop to think just how BIG even the smallest BMP is after
it's encoded to attach to mail? Arachne could be working flawlessly,
and your ISP's servers could still have a hissyfit over the size of the
message.
First: Check to make certain than a encoding selection has been made;
MIME is preferable because it takes up less space than UUEncoded.
Second: Instead of "Send mail NOW" select Save to OUTBOX; you'll be
able to check to see if the file attached successfully PRIOR to starting
the mail upload. I've made it a rule of thumb to always save messages
with attachments to OUTBOX, even though I have cable modem and 24/7
on-line high speed access; that way I can check to make *certain* the
attachment I want is where I want it.
Third: If the message checks out AOK in the OUTBOX, all attachments
there where they belong, then send; if you get another SMTP error then
you should check your SMTP.LOG file to see what happened when ... even
if you don't understand it, someone here is likely to. Normally you
don't need to be filling your HDD up, and taxing the processor to both
send & write that log file, but when there are problems it's time to
turn it on.
