It's not much of a debate Christof, more of a monologue. <g>

Yes, that's what I said. 

There are many Linux distributions, and I know that some parts of a few are
written in assembly language, but as far as *I* can tell almost all are
written in high level language that must be compiled. 
This fact alone makes it possible for me to say that Linux is slower than
DOS - for example, "C" code typically runs about 1/3 the speed of assembly
code. TYPICALLY. There may be some "C" demo programs that have been pounded
into shape and run ALMOST as fast as their assembly variants. NEVER faster.

Having said it, I can't think of a way to demonstrate it. :(
