There are many Linux distributions, and I know that some parts of a few are written in assembly language, but as far as *I* can tell almost all are written in high level language that must be compiled. This fact alone makes it possible for me to say that Linux is slower than DOS - for example, "C" code typically runs about 1/3 the speed of assembly code. TYPICALLY. There may be some "C" demo programs that have been pounded into shape and run ALMOST as fast as their assembly variants. NEVER faster.
