I have a similar Tseng (ET2000) 500kB svga and if I remember correctly it
would autodetect which port to use with all on (or maybe off) and just #1
or #6 off (or on). It tries to emulate EGA on a monochrome monitor with 9
pin connector.
(it would run the train.apm on a Tandy screen fom 1985, and even attempt a
vga resolution which failed to use the entire screen if switches #1 and #6
on. Amazingly the resolution of this cga screen was sufficient.) I guess
youll have to use a screen capable of both cga and hercules to do it.
At this moment I don't have the old stuff with me, but I can try later this
week.
