Yes, I got a used system in Jan 96 specifically to use with
Arachne and shopped for a fast 386 with 8 megs and a Trident
video card because it was equal to the system Michael used for
original Arachne development.

My friend at the small town computer and vacuum cleaner store
has a couple of faster Pentiums with 64 megs, a tape drive and
a legal, single user Win 95 license that he's trying to peddle
for about $150 or so. So if you subtract out the Windows license
and the shipping, I guess he's in the ballpark with a guaranteed
to work system.

Dirt cheap hardware.

The Computer User monthly that I used to read for the used hardware
ads no longer has any ads for used equipment. Last month brand new
systems were advertised by several dealers at the $400 price point.

Here's what you get:

AMD Duron 750 Mhz
64 megs
10 g hd
Diamond Savage 3-D Video
1.44 floppy
50x cd rom
32 bit PCISound
ATX Mini Tower Case
56k V 90 Modem

That's the print ad. The website listed a slightly better deal
and I imagine that prices drop weekly.
