Hi OM Neil,
well I used to use an old soundcard in DOS but did not manage to get
that card working in Win95 and I liked to do so because I would like to
experiment with PSK31 and Digipan program, running in Win only.
So I bought a new soundcard which had to plug in a PCI-slot...
Win installation by wizzards failed (plug and pray)... install new
hardware in Win failed... the wizzard on the Soundblaster CD failed too.
Manual installation, with help of a fellow ham who had the same SB-card
working but with an older CD finaly did the job... in win95 and from
within the win95 DOS-box.
Starting up in DOS only does not install the SoundBlaster card and
Arachne is not dialing from the DOS-box due to a lack of memory since
win steals a bit of memory.
However my fellow ham, Harry, PD2HOS, has the card running in DOS only
and we decided to copy his installation details to my machine... but his
PCI-slots are different to mine. :-((
Anyway... it seems to be possible to run the SoundBlaster PCI in DOS
only.
*** Of course it would be nice if "Digipan" or any other program to do
PSK31 would exist for DOS (never heard of a DOS digipan).
