Hi List,
by default a win9x + DOS system starts up in win-mode.
To activate DOS one may use the DOS-box (DOS-prompt) and lose memory to
the already installed win9x.
In my system Arachne functions this way until more memory is needed for
the dialing of the fone.
Some text editors can't find their temp location so all new typed text
is lost (e.g. WordStar).
The soundcard in the PCI-slot functions OK since it is already installed
in win9x.
A second way do get to DOS is to restart the computer in the DOS-only
mode.
A bit of memory is lost now... but Arachne is now OK even when dialing.
The soundcard is not playing anymore.
This is a time consuming way of starting DOS-only because we have first
to start win9x and than reset the machine.
A third way is to change BootGUI=1 to BootGUI=0 (BootGUI is in msdos.sys
Now only DOS is started. You will get C:\ quickly.
If you want to do something in win... just type "win" and the rest of
the starting up will follow (and the waiting).
(Soundcard is not playing either now)
Arachne memory (Alt M) 1rd 2nd way 3rd way

Tested on pentium 75 and Win95.
BTW: any suggestions to get rit of the bloody win-flag ?
