Tried to view the attached GIF with Arachne, and it looked awful. It
is supposed to be a directory tree as seen in a winbloat file manager,
but the dark blue background makes everything pretty much unreadable.

The same GIF looks exactly right when viewed with the ancient (1991)
Cedar Island GIF viewer 1.0.

Just looked at the above msg in my Sent folder. The gif appeared
in-line, and looked good. I clicked on the link to the gif to view it
separately, and as before, it got lost under a dark blue background.

Apparently the gif has a transparent background. And when arachne
displays a gif by itself, it happens to use a screen with a dark blue
background.

As I'm writing this msg in Arachne's email composer window, the
letters that I type appear in yellow on a dark blue
background--probably the same blue that spoiled the view of the gif.

I know the foreground/background colors in text areas can be changed.
I didn't realize till now that the same configuration would affect gif
backgrounds.

Suggestion: Always display gif's on a screen with a light background,
regardless of how text areas are configured.
