This is one of the disadvantages of having your ISP delete the
virus infested message before making it available for you to
download. If you had been able to have downloaded the message you
could have edited out the virus and then you could have forwarded
the the rest of the message with headers and all to some abuse
reporting address at his ISP. His ISP would then have evidence of
his having sent you some unwanted messages. This is what I did in
the case of a virus I received from a subscriber at my ISP. The
ISP thanked me for reporting the virus in this manner and they
notified the father of the sender of the message. She was a
seventeen year old girl. Her machine had sent me the message without
her having been aware. The girl's father took care of the problem by
disinfecting her machine. He asked me to never tell her about it. I
told him I would respect his request and I expressed my opinion to
him that I felt he should tell his daughter about the problem her
computer had. He said no. She would nearly die from embarrassment
if she knew. Perhaps her father knows best.
