You can help us to understand here, Richard.

Here in Canada we have no such fear. Maybe our proximity gives us a better
understanding of the way America works. We worry when their right-wing
religious wackos get too much press, because we fear that the pendulum
may be swinging over there and it will likely follow suite here.
We have concerns when the republicans get too much power for exactly the same
reason. Luckily our 'conservative' counterparts have been rendered impotent
for quite some time now, and this is a very nice situation. :)

You see ? Our concern is mostly with the general political climate because
ours will probably replicate it a bit later.

*MY* concerns WERE more in the areas of global warming and the destruction
of rain forests. My concerns have changed a bit.

It appears from your post that the European press feels USA is the big Satan.
Why ? Just because their economy seems to drive the world's markets ?
This may be one of the concerns that part of the middle eastern peoples have.
At one time the world stock market WAS mostly USA, but now the USA controls
only about 50% of it. This change took place in a short time.
In another short time this could become 33% by natural causes.

Is there some concern in Europe regarding the freedoms enjoyed by Westerners ?
Freedom from religion, freedom to dress as you wish, freedom of expression in
religious/political/sexual matters ? The middle eastern fundamentalists have
VERY serious concerns with THESE matters. This is their major problem.
Does Europe also wish us to return to the Dark Ages ?

Do Europeans in general feel the west, and USA in particular, applies too much
pressure, by whatever means, to other nations in matters of human rights and
is seen as a meddler in the affairs of other nations ?

Is it bothersome that the English language, the language of the great satan,
permeates all aspects of life everywhere except France ?

How about the internet and television that both seem to emanate from the west ?
Does this present as much of a problem for Europe as it surely does for these
activists ?

Are WE affecting the flow and price of oil from the middle east too much for
European tastes ?

What have I forgotten ? The fact that GW Bush jr is a moron ? Is that what
bothers the world ? It should bother the USA more than Europe. I think it's
sad that they would have let his party get away with what they did, but it's
not likely to last more than a few years and the recovery (from him) will be
enjoyable.

The US president isn't all powerful. He's not a king or dictator. There are
cooler heads in the office. Probably not cool enough, but there will be no
nuclear war or WW3. Who would fight on the other side ?

This struggle isn't winnable. The best possible response is NO response.
When the next terrorist attack comes it could be far worse than nuclear war.

Please tell us how to re-program a religious zealot.
