The Bush family is from New England. His grandfather was a
United States Senator from Connecticutt. His father, the former
President, moved to Texas as a young man to make his fortune
in the oil business and to get away from his overbearing father.

The family summer home was in Maine. George W, the current President,
grew up in Midland, Texas--but spent summers in Maine and went
away to Prep school in New England, (I think at Hotchkiss) then
went to Yale where he concentrated on being amiable and partying.

Back in Texas, George W. was not very sucessfull in the oil business
and then became a part owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team. He
was a popular figure with the baseball team and after selling out
his interest at a good profit became active in politics with the
support of his father and other mainstream business and polictical
leaders. He was "safe and predictable".

He doesn't have a gift for language and likely suffers
from dyslexia. It's quite possible that he has other virtues.

I fervently hope that he rises to occasion. Other American
presidents have distinguished themselves after lackluster
early careers--notably Lincoln and Harry Truman.

We need effective leadership in this crisis.
