A 12 volt automotive or marine battery should have about 13.8 to 14
volts while being charged. If you use a power inverter or if you use
the boat's battery while it is being charged, then you should also
use a regulated power supply. Inverters are notorious for producing
power spikes that can fry your PC. Also a charging circuit may also
produce power spikes.
