There have been lots of profiles of the terrorists in the US media.
It appears that at least some of them had families with wives and
children. One person reputed to have been involved is a doctor
in the final phase of his training as a radiologist in Texas.

No one can be more dedicated than a religious zealot convinced of the
rightness of his cause. This group was ready and willing to sacrifice
their lives for their cause.
