Hi All;
On the weekend I got Arachne Telnet working with my router/DSL modem
setup. Since neither the router or upstream gateway seemed to be BOOTP
compatible (DHCP only I guess) I had been unable to get Telnet to work
using BOOTP. The fix is obvious in hindsight.
Just pre-configure the connection in config.tel. :(

Access to my router via Telnet allowed me to finish up a few mods
and yesterday I did some speed testing.
There are three separate users (separate LANs) on this side of the
router. Two users use Win98 and IE 5 on new 866 MHz boxes.
I use Arachne 1.66 on a 200 Mhz box.

We timed the download of an image (1.6 Mb) from the Nasa Image eXchange
as individual users of the system and then, after cleaning caches, we
did the downloads simultaneously.

They got the image in 28.8 and 30 sec respectively.
I got the image in 69 sec. :(

Running simultaneously, they got 33 sec and 31 sec respectively.
I got *81* sec. Now, since they were obviously only overlapping my
time for the first about 30 seconds, that seems to have cost me 12 sec !

I don't think the difference in computer speeds is too important here.
There must be some serious deficiency in the manner with which Arachne
interfaces to the packet driver.

Any ideas or comments ?
