Evidently one will need a Windows browser in order
to sign up. I couldn't successfully complete the
signup process with either Arachne or Lynx386.

Arachne even without a Windows browser for signing

I signed up with mailandnews.com, and I think it was with Lynx386, know it
wasn't anything in Windows. Now I don't know if my account is still active
since I haven't used it in a while. Time to put it to the test?

I am offline as I read your message and type my response. I don't think I could
post to the Arachne list from mailandnews.com when I subscribed with regular ISP
email address. I could try from Arachne and from Lynx386 to see if I'm still
active. One problem is how to paste a message composed offline without a good
copy-and-paste facility or a command or menu option to insert a file.
