These are not modem speeds, but port speeds. You need your port speed to be higher than modem speed else your modem will be constantly sending "wait" signals while it decompresses buffered data. I can't answer about the dialer section since I don't really have one, but I *believe* the ATZ / ATFx modem initialization string sets your modem to its maximum. Then during negotiation with the remote modem, the highest reliable speed will be determined and used. Generally you don't get a 54kbps connection if your telephone office is more than about a quarter mile away. In that case, the modems will negotiate the speed down to 48 or even 42 kbps. - Steve
