Thank you Clarence and Glenn, from your descriptions of what actually happens I can tell everything is working fine and my ramdisk temp directory and "ARACHNETEMP" variable are working fine.
Half the difficulty was looking at the contents of the "temp" on the ramdisk, in Arachne. If you have previously looked you look again at an index previously created, and not updated. An example from the other day. I started Arachne and checked the contents of the ramdisk, 8 HTM files. Connected to net and downloaded 10 emails and read them. Checked contents of ramdisk, 8 HTM files and none are emails. Therefore I think I have a problem. NOW, ALT E, shell out to command line and a DIR of the ramdisk shows 18 files of which 10 are HTM formatted emails. Now I do not have a problem. I have also skillfully avoided getting an up to date (re-read) of an index in Insight, by not using the back function, and just use the (<) and (>) buttons.
