No, I wouldn't recommend running X on a 486sx25 with 8meg RAM. IMHO to get adequate performance from X on a stand-alone system, you need at least a 486dx33 with 12meg RAM. This may not seem like a big difference, but I have found 486sx25 performance to be quite disappointing. > I'm not interested in X I'd only like to use arachne for > linux through dosemu. Is it required x too? Arachne for Linux uses SVGAlib (instead of X), and this will work better on your machine than X. DOSemu is used to run DOS programs on Linux and is not needed for the Linux version of Arachne. Although, I seem to remember (before there was a Linux version of Arachne) that somebody did get the DOS version of Arachne to work on Linux using DOSemu. Unfortunately, the current version of Arachne for Linux requires glibc2. It will not work with Slackware 3.x (because it uses libc5 instead of glibc2). Hopefully the new flowerpot version of Arachne will work with libc5. Cheers, Steven
