Greetings all.... supposedly my Pavilion had a bad hard drive...the second bad one in 2 years and I went to Comp to deliver the recovery disk so they could make the final check, and now they tell me I also have a bad floppy drive! Am I the only person that ever has problems with hard drives? And why would the floppy go bonkers the same time as the hard drive? Before I took it to Comp, I check in the bios and it did not detect the hard drive, but it did see the floppy. In fact I tried using the boot disk....the drive worked but thats about it... For some reason, and its only a gut feeling, I think the HD was good and the floppy is good, but there is some other evil lurking on the Mother board. I am not an expert, so my diagnosis is purely a guess. What do you all think? Originally, the only fault was when I booted up I got a message saying that there was no operating system detected.
I bought an IBM machine and hope to get many years of service from it. It came with Windows ME (boo), and if I ever get the HP back, I will take the HD out and use it for Dos and Linux stuff. Right now I am happily using BeOS. All the best to everyone on the list. And to think we were worried about Big Brother! Neil T. wa4chq, Gwynn, Va.
