I have WP 5.1 for DOS. You can see the graphics fonts and also
the inserted graphics images in the "page preview" mode. This is
a wysiwyg mode and it is for viewing only. In order to edit the
page you have to return to an edit mode which presents itself
somewhat like an advanced ascii text editor with lots of pull-down
menus where you can mark lines and words and characters to be
displayed with whatever font or style you select from the menus.
The placement of the inserted graphics images are shown by brackets.
After editing your page you return to the whysiwyg page preview mode
to observe the effect of the changes. This system works fine, but
it is very difficult and frustrating to use for a novice. There
are many hot keys the user has to learn in order to access all the
various menus. WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS offers a whysiwhg editor.
It is much easier to use than version 5.1, but it requires much more
disk space and it needs a 386 or above to run well. WP 5.1 will run
just fine on a 286 and it can even be used in an XT running from
floppy disks. WP 6.0 for DOS is far more easy to use than M$ Word
for Windows and it also so much better, IMNSHO.
