What brand of WinModem did he have? Was it an ISA WinModem or a PCI? BTW, when you run the Arachne setup wizard you will come across a note saying Arachne will not support WinModems. If Arachne works with some kinds of WinModems, then this means that some kinds of WinModems are almost good. The WinModems I have tried won't work in a DOS box. Action Tech brand. They will work in DOS only after you have restarted Windows in MS-DOS mode. This type of DOS mode isn't the best because it doesn't leave you with as much conventional memory as real DOS mode.
