If you want to do your email when you are visiting with someone
away from home, or if you or at a public library or a cyber cafe,
then http access is often the most convenient and sometimes the only
way to do it.  Many of the web-based email sites such as operamail
are not at all bloated and they don't dazzle you with too much
advertising.
