Hello:

A couple of months ago I sent Glenn a private email in which
"Osama Bin Laden" was part of the "Subject:" header. The
message was returned to me by Glenn's ISP with a note saying
that it would not be delivered because they didn't like the
subject line.

I changed the subject line. The new subject line made no
reference to the world's most infamous villian and I sent the
same message along with a note to Glenn to inform him of what
had happened to my message the first time I had tried to send it.

Glenn wrote back to me saying that he had taken up the matter of
censorship of subject headers with his ISP. He said that his ISP
had denied that they indulge in censorship of emails about any
particular subject matter, despite evidence to the contrary.
(I had forwarded to Glenn a copy of my bounced mail notice from the
postmaster of his ISP.)

Today I sent a message to the newsgroup "alt.military.retired" in
which the name of the world's most infamous villain was part of
the subject line. Neither the subject nor my message was off topic
in this newsgroup. Furthermore, none of the messages posted to
any of the newsgroups of the "alt" hierachy are supposed to be
moderated or censored. I sent the same message twice. It didn't
make it to the newsgroup on either attempt to send. At my end it
appeared as though the messages were sent successfully. I received
no bounce notices from the daemons and I received no error messages
from my mail and news client, Nettamer. These messages failed to
make it to the newsgroup. I wonder what is going on.

Of course I have no reason to suspect that my government might be
spying on me because I am neither a supporter nor an apologist for
the world's most infamous villian.

Has anybody else experienced any problems with sending emails or
newsgroup messages in which the name of the world's most infamous
villian is a part of the subject line?
