Sam,

I don't think that I ever indicated that Powerquest offered a separate DOS
version of Partition Magic. What I did say was that Powerquest *includes* a
DOS version of Partition Magic on their CD-ROM.

If you want a DOS only, on-the-fly partitioner, there are/were several
freeware/shareware programs available on Simtel.

I am using Partition Magic ver. 4.1 (DOS) and its Windoze-like interface is
bad enough for me that I would not want to use a "better looking" Windoze
interface. The promos about upgrades that I get from Powerquest indicate
that "improvements" since 4.1 are minimal, at best. In the current version
(ver. 7.0, I believe), the "improvement" is that you can "undo" all changes
that you make in a session. With ver. 4, PM creates a batch file as you make
partition changes, but doesn't make the changes until you hit the "apply"
button. If you get distracted or interrupted while making or resizing
partitions, and forget exactly what you had done and redo some of the
changes, PM will blithely go thru the batch file as many times as you have
entered changes.

I don't know why Jennifer Taylor goes on and on about "rescue disks."
"Rescue disks" are simply boot disks in the event that something goes wrong
with your HD. If a particular program had protection provisions to prevent
its installation on multiple computers, the "rescue disk" would include that
information. Other times, the rescue disk will have important information to
permit you to access your computer as you had done. For example, my System
Commander rescue disk includes the MBR information for the multi-boot OS
partitions that I have.
