  As a multi-user OS, Linux runs many "programs" under 
the client-server model... but I don't think you want
to disable *all* services.

  I agree that Linux (the kernel) is a great OS.  It's 
possible to run a system without *any* servers, but 
you can't run KDE without an X server.  :-/
