That's the problem. It forces the use of the arrow keys, and they're
perverted. No more perverted than lynx, but with links there is an
alternative - TAB.

It IS the Q problem and the Tab problem.
As I have said, if the user interface irks me, the functionality will
surely be irrelevant. <g>

YOUR part of the user interface is great !
Please don't concern yourself with the fact that I don't care for links.
Different strokes for different folks.
I like BasicLinux and highly recommend it. ;-)

Also, it looks like you fixed the Q problem in the latest release, but
it still doesn't quite do it for me.
I assume that "d" uses links - otherwise what follows is more garbage
than usual:

d [enter]: [select a file that you know is text] [enter]
This is NICE - if it was as easy to get out (or BACK) as get in, then
mc would NOT be required.
But:
A little [OK] is visible on the lower left. What the heck can I do with
it ? Normal intuition says that's a prompt and hitting [enter] accepts
it - thereby going back to the previous level. Nope. It does nothing.
Normal intuition also says [ESC] - the key that was built for the function
- will Escape you to the previous level. Nope. It turns on the accursed
pull-down.
In your new version Q gets the exit confirmation screen.
In the version I HAD been dealing with Q did nothing. I tried it offline
by typing links. I got some URLs to select. Q did NOT do anything.
Big Q, little q, cntrl Q, alt Q, nada.

The arrow keys ? Well maybe, but I avoid them because the syntax is
warped. I want to go right and I hit right arrow. Instead of going
right, I'm off to visit an uninteresting URL. I avoid the arrow keys
in lynx and use TAB instead. At least it seems logical.

Now if only shiftTAB went backwards like it does in Arachne.
Bravo, Michael.<G>

The fact that you were able to do something to change links to make
Q almost useful bodes well. Can you make ESC go back one link ?
Can you make TAB proceed forward thru links and shiftTAB backwards ?

Hotkeys have a dark side. If everyone could agree on what hotkey does
what, the world would be s strange and wonderful place. But if you have
to adjust your brain to suit someone else's idea of what should happen,
then things start to go awry.
Get online with Arachne, go to your Hotlist and hit Q to see what I mean.

Don't distrust mc. Df agreed with it.

I'm not blaming Baslinux Steven. Just because I have a little trouble
doesn't mean there is anything wrong with Baslinux. The problem(s) lie
with the foreigness and complexity of Linux combined with my trail and
error learning system.
I have done some more experiments to determine the location of the
problem. I copied links to HD, deleted it on RD, copied mc to RD, and
then copied links back and deleted mc. I ended up with the same space
I started with. I had to KNOW there was no problem with space leakage.
I used YOUR links and mc so there would be no arguement.
I copied and deleted instead of moved to be sure I was comparing apples
with apples.

The problem only occurs if I try to execute lynx after loading it onto
the RD. The execute fails with a dumb (to me) error message from gunzip.
Why IT is involved is beyond me. I think it attempts to spread the lynx
executable into all corners of the RD. Just my guess.:((

Thanks.
