Hello everyone!

I've been lurking around here for quite some time now, listening to the
various goings-on here on the list, and now that the general topic seems to
be Linux and BasicLinux, I thought I would jump in with a question or two or
three.

I have several older computers, and have pretty much decided to dedicate one
to experimenting with BasicLinux. The problem is that the computer in
question is an IBM PS/2, with an MCA motherboard. If memory serves, BL is
based on Slack 3.5, and Slack has the reputation from what I've been able to
determine for having the best support for an MCA based system. Therefore,
I'm assuming (and we all know what *that* leads to) that BL should work
pretty well, unless the MCA support wasn't stable in Slack 3.5.

So, my questions are: Has anyone attempted using BL with an MCA based PS/2
or other system? If so, are they compatible? If no one has tried this yet,
I am willing to be the "test subject", if some of you Linux guru-types are
willing to give me a few pointers, probably pretty obscure ones at that,
along the way. Just for reference, below is the basic info for the system
that I plan on doing this experiment with. To my understanding, it should
be adequate, so far as basic hardware goes, for what I want to do, which is
get a BL setup with X running.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this matter, especially any hidden and not so
hidden pitfalls I should watch for. Thanks in advance for any insight that
may be offered.

PS/2 Specs
100 MHz 486 processor
32 Megs RAM
HD #1 1 Gig Micropolis SCSI, partitioned in two 500 Meg slices, one of
which has DR-DOS 7 installed. Second Partition is where I would like to
install BL.
HD #2 270 Meg IBM SCSI, partitioned into a 142 Meg drive (app), and a 128
Meg drive, which I plan to use for a swap file
XGA video card (512K memory, I think)
US Robotics Sportster 28.8 external modem
IBM 9515 Monitor
